Modern Society – Myth & Reality

By: Safeer Ahmad Khan, MA (Edu) USA.

The foundations of the so-called Modern Society were firmly laid in the aftermath of the First and Second World Wars in which millions of men stayed away from their families for long periods of time and hundreds of thousands were killed and never returned home. This extraordinary phenomenon gave birth to moral degradation and sexual free for all resulting in hundreds of thousands of illegitimate and unwanted children the likes of which the world had never seen before. Resultantly, the stayhome Moms were sucked in the male dominated and highly predatory workforce leaving the females at the mercy of male exploitation with deadly social consequences. The traditional housewives, school teachers, nurses, telephone operators and social workers gave way to cocktail waitresses, club dancers, comfort companions, pornography prostitutes to name a few. The “faminine sanctity” was traded for “material gain” with devastating social consequences, resulting in the breakup of the traditional family unit triggering a sexual free for all atmosphere turning neighborhood after neighborhood into virtual brothels and drug war zones where opposing mafias locked horns in mortal conflict and cops would dare not go alone but in twos with guns drawn. Mankind ditched itself in an abyss blinded by the temporary glitter of material gain relegating morality to the backseat with devastating social consequences. Double edged weapons like Cable TV, Internet, Android phones & laptops provided a global outreach in the hands of the inexperienced and the young and brought the clutter in people’s living rooms. The good old moral values were permanently lost to the so called Modern Technology. The situation was far better in the small towns and villages tucked away in the hinterland away from the suicidal laws of the “Modern Society,” holding on to the good old family values of love and respect. Unfortunately, the Church, the Synagogue, the Temple or the Mosque have ceased to provide the guidance which the present generation is so much in need of and which was their duty to perform for the betterment of the society. Though Islamic teachings and practices have time and again proved beneficial for man’s peaceful existence, Muslims too predominantly have proved to be “poor practioners,” with no moral authority to lead the world in the right direction. Today, the world is waiting for a Massaih to rescue mankind from the evil clutches of the “so-called modern society,” more than anytime before. In ending, I would like to quote a famous Einstein saying, “If you lose your morality, you lose everything.”
